experienced maker
Malibro Rocky Oaks is a winery founded in 2003 by businessman Howard Leight . The management of its vineyards and brewing is supervised by Brendan Malm (Malm Cellars) and Tom Rohrssen (SIMI Winery) , who have been making wine and managing vineyards for over 40 years in the Napa-Sonoma region, a famous California wine production area. Well done and maintained to a very high standard. Since its founding in 2003 , the staff of the same members have been working on-site, and the know-how has been established to create wines of stable quality .
Malibu Rocky Oaks Sparkling Rosé , which we also import and sell, is a sparkling wine that has mastered the Champagne method* under the guidance of Penny Gadd-Coster, who has won over 100 medals including over 30 gold medals in the Napa/Sonoma region. Master Manveer Sandhu oversees the production of sparkling wines .
*Officially known as Méthode Champagne Noise, this is the traditional method used when champagne was invented. Secondary fermentation in the bottle generates natural carbon dioxide gas, and the bubbles are confined to create elegant, small, elegant bubbles.
Hand-picked harvest
At Malibro Rocky Oaks, all grapes are hand-picked .
Many affordable wines are machine harvested to keep costs down, but machine harvesting indiscriminately harvests immature grapes and berries that have begun to rot (= already oxidized). , causing significant deterioration in the quality of the wine.
Machine harvesting also tends to shake the vines to drop the ripe grapes, which can also shorten the life of the vines and adversely affect the wines produced there in the short and long term. affect.
Unlike such mass-produced wines, Malibro Rocky Oaks wants to pursue fine wines even if the price is a little higher due to small-scale production. Only carefully selected high-quality fruits are carried to the next process. This is one of the keys to producing high-quality, delicious wine.
Mechanical harvesting on such a steep slope is impossible in the first place...
brewing philosophy
Searching for the original taste of ingredients
Brewing at Maliblocky Oaks varies depending on the variety and style of wine, but it is often fermented in macrovins and stainless steel tanks, and this process, including pressing, is also done manually. We avoid additives as much as possible and use natural yeasts that match the grape varieties to preserve the unique aroma and taste of this region . Antioxidants are sometimes added to stabilize the long-term aging, but the amount is kept to a very small amount so that the quality does not change. As mentioned above, we carefully select undamaged fruits by hand-harvesting, so the amount of antioxidants used is small.
It is understandable to hear from the participants of the wine party, "Even though I drank that much, I didn't have a headache and didn't get sick at all."
finest french oak
Malibro Rocky Oaks Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are aged in Seguin Moreau 'Haute Futaie' French oak barrels . Haute Futaie is an oak harvested from a forest managed by the French government since the 14th century . -After 200 years of repeated logging and planting, only about 7% of the carefully selected French oak is the "Haute Futaie" brand . According to Seguin Moreau, it is said to be four times more aromatic than wines aged in regular barrels. Aged in these finest French oak for up to 24 months, the wine is rich in aromas and has good tannin structure.
Eco-friendly sustainable management
As mentioned above, Malibro Rocky Oaks strives to make “natural” wines with as few additives as possible, but we also put a lot of effort into sustainability . There may be many things that do not directly affect the taste, but consumers in Japan and the United States are beginning to choose producers with a high awareness of sustainability because the adverse effects of environmental problems such as heavy rains, hurricanes, and wildfires are felt in both Japan and the United States. I would like to recommend it as a seller. We will introduce our efforts in bullet points.
- Eco-friendly wine making that makes use of the soil and does not use herbicides
- Uses JMS Stylet Oil , an organic crop protectant , for pest control and powdery mildew control. The frequency of spraying is limited to 3 times or less per year.
- In order to prevent the protective agent from flying outside the field, we have set our own standard of 5 mph or less, which is even stricter than the government ordinance stipulated that it can only be sprayed when the wind speed is 10 mph or less.
- As a result, many wild birds also come and go in the fields, playing a role in natural pest control .
- I belong to a group of sustainable vintners called " The Vineyard Team " and focus on researching, enlightening and implementing the latest sustainable cases .
- Logistics affiliated truck companies are only companies that comply with California's eco-vehicle promotion business
- Barrels are only sourced from replanting forests
- Wine bottle labels are procured from companies that use energy-saving and highly efficient closed-loop recycling .
