Au Bon Climat
Pioneer of the Burgundy style who studied under Henri Jayer, the god of Burgundy
Au Bon Climat was founded by Jim Klendenen, who set his sights on winemaking after graduating from the UCSB Faculty of Law, after traveling to Burgundy and Champagne.
At that time, Bordeaux style was the mainstream in California. Under the influence of Henri Jayer, who is worshiped as the god of Burgundy, he decided to make Burgundy-style California wine in California.
The Santa Maria Valley, where the Obon Climat fields are located, is one of the coolest areas in California, with strong winds from the sea and low annual rainfall, making it the perfect environment for making Burgundy-style Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Awarded as the best winery in the world by Robert Parker, a renowned wine critic, and has been awarded the best wine maker and wine maker of the year many times in California.
Jim, aka "America's Henri Jayet," passed away in May 2021. Au Bon Climat is kept alive by a team that carries on his legacy.
