5 Southern California Restaurants to Enjoy in Tokyo

Hello, this is REI from the SoCalization Marketing Department. It's been about two years since the new coronavirus was first confirmed in the world at the end of 2019, and I'm sure many people are itching to go on a trip abroad. It seems that many countries overseas have relaxed their travel restrictions, but in Japan, it may still be some time before we can feel as free to travel abroad as we did before.

That's why, for those who want to go to California but can't, we've put together a list of 5 SOCAL/ California restaurants in Tokyo where you can enjoy the flavors of California . Some of these restaurants even serve delicious California wine! If you're looking to explore delicious restaurants in Tokyo or Japan now that you can't travel abroad, be sure to give them a try.

table of contents:

1. Daikanyama: Cedros - where you can eat authentic California food

This hidden seafood restaurant is run by two brothers who grew up in San Diego. The American interior makes you feel like you're in San Diego. "Cedros" comes from the name of a street in the Solana Beach area where the brothers grew up.

The course menu changes every two weeks, so you're sure to find something new whenever you visit. The restaurant is known for its delicious dishes made with fresh seafood, such as Cajun shrimp tacos and lobster truffle cream risotto. (I actually tried it and it was delicious!)

It's a restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, so it would be a great place for anniversaries with loved ones or business dinners.

2. Ebisu: Fummy's Grill: Enjoy California cuisine made with fresh seasonal ingredients and California wine

This is a famous place when it comes to California cuisine. It is one of the few restaurants that touts California cuisine, and is a historic place that was opened in 1996 by a Japanese chef who worked at a restaurant in LA in order to bring the taste of California to Tokyo.

Among the reasonably priced and fresh menu items, the specialty Chinese chicken salad is a must-order! The daily lunch hamburger steak is also really delicious, and it's rare to be able to eat such a juicy hamburger steak for under 1000 yen.

It's a little secret that sometimes they spritz a bottle of brandy worth about 100,000 yen on the dessert cake as a service.

Uptown is a place where you can enjoy fresh, milky oysters and wine. This dining bar is staffed by a sommelier and chef who used to work in San Francisco, and is an authentic California restaurant that offers a selection of 20 types of California wine selected by the owner himself.

Another highlight is the fact that anyone who has lived in California can enjoy nostalgic dishes such as oyster shooters (a way of eating oysters that originated on the West Coast of the United States, where raw oysters are served in a shot glass with sauce and eaten in one bite) and California rolls.

This is the restaurant to visit when you want to eat ultra-American food.

5. Omotesando: When you think of California, you think of smoothies! Tokyo Juice: Feel like you're in California, even in Tokyo

Tokyo Juice offers freshly squeezed juice. The menu is extensive, and the juice is made to order, so you can choose to leave out any vegetables you don't like.

It's great to be able to easily consume the vegetables and fruits essential for a healthy diet in the form of juice. In the past, they were a participating store on Almond Day, and they even produced the original "California Almond Butter Jelly" smoothie.

The owner, Jeffrey, once worked too hard, which led to poor eating habits and poor health. After he and his wife changed their eating habits and tried to eat healthier meals, limiting fried foods, processed foods, sugar, and salt, for a few months, Jeffrey saw dramatic changes, including less fatigue and improved skin quality.

This experience prompted him to research smoothie shops throughout Southern California, and he opened TOKYO JUICE to provide smoothies that were easy to consume and had healthy nutrition in Tokyo.

There are lots of delicious, healthy options, including avocado toast, which is still hugely popular in California, and flour-free vegan sweets, so it's a great place to go when you need some energy or the day before an important event.
