Celebrate International Friendship Day on July 30th!
Hello, I'm Yuki from the SoCalization Marketing Department. I'm a sophomore at San Diego State University! I'm currently on summer vacation in my hometown of Kyoto, and I'm excited to be able to meet up with my old friends again. What is International Friendship Day?
Do you know about International Friendship Day? I knew about the existence of this day, but I didn't really know what it was about. I didn't think there was much to celebrate, because I didn't think there was anything to do to celebrate friends. After doing a little research, I found out that according to the United Nations, International Friendship Day is about addressing the root causes of the many challenges that undermine peace, security, development, and social harmony among people around the world, such as poverty, violence, and human rights violations, by sharing, promoting, and protecting the spirit of human solidarity in various forms. The simplest example of this is friendship.
It is through friendship - by building bonds of camaraderie and nurturing strong bonds of trust - that we can contribute to the fundamental transformation that is urgently needed to achieve lasting stability, build a safety net to protect us all, and generate passion for a better world in which we are all united for the greater good.
How to celebrate this day
When you think about how connections and trust can help you take actions that would be difficult to take alone, it makes you realize the importance of friendship and friends. It might be a good idea to hold or participate in an event on this day where you can meet new friends. Cultural differences between Japan and the US
By the way, as a little digression, I felt the difference in Japanese and American culture through the way my high school friend in Japan and a friend I recently became close with in the US use Instagram Stories. I feel like my friends in Japan are more proactive in posting "what" they are doing on Instagram Stories. For example, if they go out drinking with friends, you'll see pictures of beer. On the other hand, I think my friends I met in the US place more importance on "who" they went drinking with. If they go out drinking, I feel like I often see group photos of the people they were with taken through a mirror.
