Our story began in 1971 when my parents, Susan Sokol and Bill Blosser, planted their first vines in the Dundee Hills of Oregon.
As second generation winemakers, we create world class wines that showcase the character of our hillside vineyards in a sustainable way.
" I am passionate about my family's legacy.
This wine has vibrant aromas of red cherry, red currant and nutmeg.
On the palate, the fruit flavors of red cherry, raspberry and red currant continue with a hint of clove.
A delicate Pinot Noir with bright acidity and a medium finish.
Pair it with traditional roast turkey, creamy caccio e pepe, or Oregon's popular wild mushroom risotto.
2021 was the second warmest growing season since 2015.
We were also able to add a new word to our dictionary: "heat dome."
In late June, temperatures reached 37.7°C or above for three consecutive days, breaking the Willamette Valley's heat record.
Bud break began as usual in mid-April, and March, April and May were the driest in the 128-year record keeping.
Flowering was on schedule in early to mid-June, with the "heat dome" arriving in late June, but because flowering had finished in all locations and moisture remained in the soil, the vines grew incredibly large during these three days of hellish temperatures.
July and August were very hot and dry, but September started off mild with some rain allowing the grapes to ripen well.
The hot, dry summer allowed the fruit to be very clean and for excellent fermentation.
Mother Nature gave us something to be thankful for on our 50th anniversary.
The grapes were carefully hand-picked from our own orchard block on September 25th.
The berries were hand sorted, any defective bunches were removed and the berries were de-stemmed.
Half of the fruit was then placed directly into a 3-ton stainless steel fermenter and the other half into open oak vats.
Fermentation took place over 10-14 days using native yeasts.
After a long, cool fermentation, the wine was pressed bone dry and then barrel aged for 16 months in 100% French oak barrels, with 17% new.
When Sokol Blosser first planted vines in 1971, the wine industry was virtually nonexistent in Oregon.
Today, with over 900 wineries and 30,000 vineyards, Oregon wine can be enjoyed anywhere in the world.
Sokol Blosser is a family-owned winery that has been a leader in sustainable grape growing and business practices since the beginning of winemaking in Oregon.
Sokol Blosser is committed to producing world-class wines that express the distinctive flavors of our hillside vineyards while respecting the environment and our health.
This commitment to world-class quality and environmental awareness are Sokol Blosser's core values, and they not only practice organic farming, but also produce wines that are kind to the environment and the people who work there.
This initiative has been ongoing since the winery was founded, and in the fall of 2005 it received the prestigious official organic certification from the United States Department of Agriculture.
