Aged for 16 months in French and American barrels (20% new barrels). Aromas of dark cherries, plums and spices such as cinnamon and cardamom. Rich fruitiness with nuances of violets and black pepper, with moderate tannins and oak flavor in the mouth, and fresh fruitiness to the end.
Vintage Information
2020 was another great vintage in California. In Sonoma County, abundant rains in late winter and early spring moistened the soil, and the early summer heat wave helped the vines get used to the warm weather and endure the heat wave in late August. The result was well-ripened, flavorful grapes, all of which were harvested in a balanced state.
Tasting Comments
Aromas of dark cherry, plum, baking spice, crushed violets and blackcurrant.
Fresh fruit flavors with hints of black pepper, moderate tannins, and a lingering spicy oak finish.
It has a rich, luxurious velvet finish.
Goes well with steak, grilled lamb, and grilled winter vegetables.
Field Information
The area around the winery has low nighttime temperatures and frequent fog, which makes it ideal for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay but not Cabernet Sauvignon, so more than 30 years ago Rodney searched for a location with warm days and less influence from the cold Pacific ocean breezes, and found 94 hectares of hillsides and flat land in Alexander Valley, consisting of well-drained volcanic alluvial soils and uplifted shale and sandstone soils.
Today, they use grapes from throughout Sonoma County, from Cloverdale to Russian River Valley, to create a quintessential Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon.
