Aged 15 months in French barrels (65% new barrels). Prop. Red was not produced for the 2020 VTG, so the Cabernet Sauvignon is included in Jayson. The wine is blended with three vineyards in Atlas Peak (including the winery's own vineyards) and the vineyards produced by Palmer. The bright and fresh fruit aromas of dark plum, raspberry, and black currant blend with a long, lingering finish of smooth caramel and butterscotch. A velvety, expansive, and expressive wine that maximizes the potential of Merlot.
This Jason is like a second to Palmer.
However, since it is made using the same brewing method as the top cuvée and is a wine that was selected as Jason through rigorous selection before bottling in the final stage, it is not blended with any wine other than that produced by Palmer.
This is a bottle that fully expresses Palmer's individuality.
Vintage Information
The 2020 vintage began with a mild, dry winter, followed by early bud break, a cool spring, and a mild, stable summer, which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, gaining complexity and firm tannins.
Additionally, the dry climate resulted in low yields and small, concentrated fruit.
Due to the forest fires, Palmer carried out a thorough grape selection, which resulted in an excellent quality of the final harvest.
However, yields were so low that winemaker Katie decided not to produce the top cuvée, the red Palmer, and instead dedicated the Estate Cabernet to Jason.
This gives it an astonishing weight, expressing the distinctive characteristics of Palmer.
The 2020 vintage had a higher Cabernet ratio, but in 2021 it will return to 76% Merlot/12% Cabernet.
Technical information
Cultivation and Winemaking: The harvest period runs from September 24th to October 9th.
After being hand-picked and hand-sorted, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruitiness and bright acidity.
It is then aged for 15 months in French barrels (65% new).
Tasting Comments
Aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry and wild mushroom.
In the mouth, the flavors of raspberry, strawberry, and lingonberry are layered, supported by beautiful, delicate tannins. A complex and deep wine.
