The 48-year-old vineyards in the Russian River Valley are in their golden age. Fermented and aged in French barrels. Batonnage (stirring of lees) and 100% malolactic fermentation. The aroma of citrus, tropical fruits, flowers and exotic spices is sublime. Fresh fruitiness, mineral charm, long finish.
This wine runs alongside Napa Chardonnay like a running partner. It is an impactful sprinter, but also excels in the 2,000m, which requires endurance. (It is characterized by an impact from the start and a long aftertaste.)
Vintage Information
The 49-year-old vineyard is in its golden age, producing complex, flavorful, well-balanced grapes.
Thanks to the abundant rainfall from winter to spring, buds sprouted earlier than usual and fruit set was abundant. The warm and stable weather continued from spring to summer, and some white grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc began to be harvested immediately after mid-August. Hot days continued in early September, but then cool weather returned, allowing for a sufficient growth period. After that, the harvest of Chardonnay and black grapes began in earnest, and although there was a little rain, grapes with concentrated flavor, supple tannins, and dynamic acidity were obtained.
Technical information
The Chardonnay was gently pressed with the stems still attached, fermented and aged in French barrels, and then 100% malolactic fermented with batonnage (stirring of the lees) before being bottled without clarification or filtering.
Tasting Comments
Wrapped in the aroma of sun-kissed citrus flowers, ripe lime and slightly burnt tangerine orange, the impressive dynamic citrus flavor has volume and complexity, with a touch of minerality, gradually leading to a juicy finish.
