The warm Oak Knoll and cool Carneros lots combine to create the ideal Napa Chardonnay. Burnt aromas, nutty spice.
It has flavours of pear and apple caramel, and is mellow, silky soft and sophisticated.
Vintage Information
Buds began to sprout in Carneros and the mountain AVAs in March, and by May the vines were vigorously growing new shoots, with color beginning to change in early July. August had warm days and cool nights, perfect for the grapes to ripen. Hot weather continued into early September, and leaves were carefully removed to protect the grapes from the strong morning and afternoon sun and to help the fruit retain its acidity and freshness. A little rain fell afterwards, but the leaves were removed to allow air circulation, preventing disease and allowing healthy fruit to be harvested. Cooler weather returned, allowing for a longer growing season. (Excerpt from Napa Valley Vintners' Vintage Information)
Technical information
The Chardonnay was gently pressed with the stems still attached, fermented and aged in French barrels, batonnage (stirring of the lees), 100% malolactic fermentation, and bottled without clarification or filtering.
Tasting Comments
Fresh aromas of lemon curd, gardenia and apple. The first attack is lively, with hints of apple and madeleine. It has a wonderful silky mouthfeel and impressive power, which continues into a long, lustrous finish.
