Since 1980, the Hahn family has been cultivating grapes on the slopes of Monterey County. Hahn Wines is committed to its mission of producing high-quality, rich, supple wines at an affordable price point that can be enjoyed every day. The winery was established in the 1970s by German-Swiss immigrants Nicky and Gaby Hahn. They initially planted Cabernet vines and began winemaking, but in the 1980s, due to the region's characteristics of being influenced by the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean and the deep, cold waters of Monterey Bay, they replanted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which thrive in cooler environments. In 1988, Nicky, convinced of the potential of this region, began working to have Santa Lucia Highlands (SLH) certified as an AVA, and it was finally certified in 1995. Today, Santa Lucia Highlands is widely known as a renowned wine region for high-quality wines, especially Pinot Noir. Today, the Hahn family owns six vineyards in Monterey County, four vineyards (260 hectares) in SLH, and two vineyards (184 hectares) in the Arroyo Seco AVA to the south, for a total of 444 hectares of vineyards. Of these, 140 hectares are planted with Pinot Noir, accounting for 12% of the entire Pinot Noir vineyards in SLH, making it the winery with the largest share. In addition, they have the most abundant clone varieties in the region, currently cultivating 21 different Pinot Noirs. The diversity of soil, climate, amount of sunlight depending on the slope, and combination of clones allow for the production of unique Pinot Noir, which expresses the individuality of the terroir of each of our own vineyards. In this region, the growing season is about 25 days longer than other grape-growing regions in California, and as a result, the grapes have rich flavor, depth, structure, etc., and produce a wonderful wine with a sense of concentration.
