This Chenin Blanc was grown at De Gory Vineyard in Robertson Valley, about 175km northeast of Cape Town. The alternating warm days and cold evenings allow the grapes to slowly ripen to perfection, resulting in grapes with a balanced acidity. De Gory employees own 52% of the estate, and 100% of the grapes grown there are used to make Fives Reserve. Chenin Blanc is a white grape variety native to France, but has thrived in the sunny Western Cape of South Africa. Five's Reserve celebrates the iconic "Big Five" animals of South Africa: leopard, buffalo, lion, rhino and elephant. This wine was born from the Empowerment Project, which aims to improve and empower employees. 52% of the ownership of the business is held by the employees, and all grapes used for Five's Reserve are grown on the 55ha field of De Gory Farm, which they manage.
