COMMENT
The Domaine Guerlain is currently run by Bastien, the fourth generation, who works with his father to create wine. The Domaine is located between the two steep rocky mountains of Solutré and Vergisson. The area near the rocky mountains is geologically very old soil, and fossils of ancient marine life have been found in the fields.
Guerlain owns 35 different parcels (plots) of vineyards across three appellations, and the grapes from each are picked separately before being vinified and blended carefully to take into account the characteristics of each vineyard.
WINEMAKING
The vineyards are at a low altitude of about 200 meters above sea level and face south-southwest, which allows the grapes to ripen early. The winemaking is done in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and fermentation is done using natural yeast on the skins, which takes a long time but results in an aromatic finish.
Aged for 11 months in stainless steel tanks.
