Grapes are sourced from cool fields in Mendocino County, Contra Costa, Monterey, and Amador County. The wine is aged for a short time and fermented in stainless steel tanks. Aromas of pink grapefruit and freshly picked strawberries. Dry and vibrantly fresh.
Decoy brews a rosé inspired by the rosé of Provence, France.
While many rosé wines are made as a by-product of the red winemaking process, where grapes are removed to increase the ratio of skins to juice, Decoy harvests grapes just for this rosé at the right time to give it a dry flavor.
Vintage Information
Thanks to abundant rainfall in winter and spring, buds sprouted more than a week earlier than normal. Warm weather and low yields from late July to early August accelerated ripening in many areas. Harvesting began in early August with Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Zinfandel, and Pinot Noir. When the heatwave arrived in early September, careful attention was paid to harvesting at the ideal ripeness for each region. A little rain in late September allowed for a slight cooling, and all harvests were completed by late October. The white wines were vibrant with fruit, and the reds were luxurious with a firm structure, resulting in excellent wines.
Tasting Comments
The aroma of sparkling watermelon, ripe strawberry, lemon peel and mandarin orange rises from the glass. In the mouth, the vibrant red berry, citrus and melon flavors are given elegance and strength by the bright acidity. A seductive rosé with a silky smooth mouthfeel.
