COMMENT
This is a small family-run winery that sits quietly in a corner of the village of Saint-Estephe, where many famous chateaux stand. While most Bordeaux wineries have vineyards of over 100 hectares, this winery owns only 0.6 hectares of land, and produces only about 4,500 bottles per year. This winery is truly worthy of being called a Bordeaux garage winery, and produces high-quality wines through meticulous handwork.
Chateau Linot started out on just 0.1 hectares in the 1930s. The current owner, Johann Just, is a leading French woodworker who has been awarded the MOF (Meilleur Ouvrier National de France). He took over the chateau after his grandfather passed away in 2009, and in 2014 rented his great-uncle's neighboring vineyard, expanding the estate to 0.6 hectares. The old stables were also renovated to include the latest winemaking facilities. The "Linot" in the chateau's name comes from Johann's memories of visiting his grandfather's vineyard as a child to see a small songbird called "Linot".
WINEMAKING
Located on a gravelly clay soil plot adjacent to Château Cos d'Estournel. Hand-picked and carefully selected. Aged 18 months in French oak barrels (33% new). Only 4,500 bottles produced.
