Lake County, which overlooks Clear Lake and borders the northern part of Napa Valley, is at an altitude of 350-750m, so it is not subject to ocean fog. However, strong winds blow and abundant sunlight and coolness coexist.
Clay Shannon was fascinated by the wild environment of this region and believed in its potential, so in 1996 he created a vast organic vineyard of 1,000 acres on the inefficient mountain slopes and has been producing high-quality wines from this land ever since.
Their own vineyards are based on the philosophy that "agriculture is circular," and they practice strict organic farming methods called "Project Ovis."All of their wines are certified "Certified California Sustainable" by the state of California, and in 2021 they received the "Green Medal," an award given to winemakers who are leaders in environmentally friendly farming methods.
The winery has been evolving year by year, including receiving organic certification from CCOF (a US certification organization) from the 2022 vintage.
