The vines are 70-85 years old, some over 100 years old. Planting density 9,000 trees/ha, eastern slope. A field with high potential. Clay, rich in iron and lime. The name was given to this field because the former owner used it as the best land. This new domaine was created in 2012 with joint investment by Mr. Olivier Meurlan of Domaine Meurlan, a top domaine said to be the leading authority in the Maconnais region, which has been promoted to Premier Cru, and Mr. Dominique Lafon, owner of Domaine Comte Lafon, a top domaine in Meursault and a great dry white wine maker in Burgundy. The Clos des Carles vineyard, located at the southernmost point of Pouilly-Fuisse, is a historic vineyard that dates back more than 100 years, and Mr. Meurlan and Mr. Dominique immediately felt the potential and greatness of this vineyard as soon as they stepped into it. Overlooking the Saône River, this century-old vineyard is a monopoly surrounded by a long series of high stone walls (Clos).
The oldest vines in the 2.23ha vineyard were planted almost 100 years ago in 1917. They decided to pool their experience and know-how to create a wine that would surpass any Pouilly-Fuisse ever produced.
