The name comes from Hildegard, the wife of Emperor Charlemagne, whose name is also found in the Corton Charlemagne. The blend of three varieties creates a wine with a rich complexity.
Origin of "Hildegard"
They have been producing wine since 1998.
The Corton Charlemagne is named after the wife of Charlemagne, Hildegard, and the story of white wine. (It was because Charlemagne's white beard was stained with red wine, which was unsightly, so his wife Hildegard recommended that he drink white wine instead.)
Inspired by the story that the hills of Corton were once planted with these three varieties in addition to Chardonnay, the winery began making this wine.
Bien Nacid Vineyard Block 12
The Pinot Gris from the plot right next to the winery is not the light type of Alsace, but rich, oily and concentrated.
By blending Pinot Blanc, which has a firm impression with a minerality reminiscent of stone, and Aligote, which has excellent acidity, the result is a unique, fragrant white wine in the Au Bon Climat style that is comparable to Chardonnay.
It goes well with a variety of Asian and ethnic dishes.
Tasting Comments
It has rich, fragrant hazelnut and vanilla flavors with hints of creme brulée, as well as a hard minerality like crushed stone and hints of herbs such as lemon peel and rhubarb.
A medium-bodied wine with a smooth mouthfeel and deep flavor that coats the mouth.
The finish is rich in complex flavours.
