Carneros Chardonnay produced since 1990.
The winery blends grapes from its own vineyards, grown in the cool climate facing San Pablo Bay, with grapes from renowned contract vineyards such as those of the San Giacomo family.
Karner Rombauer, a former Air Force and commercial airline pilot, moved to Napa Valley in 1972 with his wife Joan, their children, two horses and five dogs, and bought 40 acres in St. Helena.
He later worked at Conn Creek Winery and began making his own wines in 1980, with his first vintages made at Schaefer's winery and in his garage.
His wife, Joan, gained experience in the wine business by working in the sales team at Stags Leap Wine Cellars and later as a director.
The company released its first vintage in 1984, and has since expanded its own vineyards not only to Napa but also to Sonoma, the Sierra Foothills, and other areas, earning the respect of many wineries as one of California's leading wineries.
While many winemakers change to keep up with market trends, Rombauer is one of the few high-quality producers that continues to produce Old American style wines that are consistently rich in traditional flavors.
Following his sad passing in 2018, winemaking is now managed by his son KR and daughter Sheena.
