COMMENT
This is a long-established maison that has been in business since 1850 in Sancerre, a famous wine-producing region in the Loire region. The maison owns many vineyards with "silex" soil, where the best wines in Sancerre are made, and produces wines that can be aged for a long time, with an emphasis on terroir. The owner, Henri Bourgeois, is a big fan of Japan and has visited the country more than 60 times.
Sancerre, a famous white wine brewing region made from Sauvignon Blanc, has a complex mosaic-like soil due to past crustal movements, and wines with different characteristics are produced depending on the soil the grapes are grown in. The Sauvignon Blanc used for Sancerre Les Grands Montants Blanc is grown in fields with clay soil mixed with pebbles.
WINEMAKING
The 4.8ha plot is made of clay soil containing a lot of pebbles. After harvest, the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks at 18-20°C. No malolactic fermentation is performed. The wine is then aged on the lees until bottling in June of the following year.
