Domaine Pinot Noir is sourced exclusively from organic and biodynamic® grapes sourced from our own vineyards in the renowned Willamette Valley.
The grapes come from three plots just south of the winery, planted to Pommard and clone 115.
Our cool climate is especially suited to growing Oregon's delicate Pinot Noir.
Light and elegant, produced in the classic Burgundian style, the Domaine's wines represent the best of King Estate and Oregon.
This wine opens with enticing aromas and deep flavors of raspberry, blackcurrant, plum, cocoa, tobacco, cedar, caramel and baking spices.
This Pinot Noir has a rich, complex flavour that lingers on the palate for a long time.
The raspberries blend pleasantly with the bright acidity and alcohol, creating a well-balanced flavor that lingers on the palate.
A warm, dry spring continued into May and the first signs of flowering appeared in early June, an earlier than average start to the season.
Fruit set in late June saw cooler temperatures and up to 2.5 inches of rain.
Rain during flowering could reduce yields, but the rains were welcome to help reduce drought stress.
After several heat waves over the summer, September brought brief rains that are common during Oregon's harvest season.
The yield was somewhat low, the berries were somewhat small and the quality of the berries was very good.
All bunches are de-stemmed and cold soaked for 48 hours with daily pump-over.
Some lots were left whole bunch for added complexity.
Before fermentation, 10% of the juice is removed using the saignée method to further concentrate the flavor and color, and the wine is fermented in stainless steel open-top tanks, punched down twice a day.
Aged for 18 months in French oak (30% new barrels).
King Estate is located in the idyllic Lorain Valley, approximately 150 km south of Dundee Hills and Yamhill-Carlton in the northern Willamette Valley, a region renowned for its Pinot Noir.
Although located in the south, it is easily influenced by the cold currents of the Pacific Ocean, producing elegant, refreshing wines.
The chateau-style winery sits atop a hill at the centre of the estate, overlooking spectacular views of the 418 hectares of land surrounded by pastures and green mountains.
First-time visitors will feel transported back to a simpler time, when the rhythm of life flowed slowly and intimately with the seasons and the bounty of the earth.
In addition to the 188 hectares of vineyards, this magnificent property is dotted with orchards, flower gardens, vegetable gardens and berry fields, as well as a beehive and a pork processing plant, all part of an integrated ecosystem.
The vineyard has been certified organic for many years and in 2016 became the largest biodynamic certified vineyard in North America.
The winery also has an on-site restaurant that offers a world-class culinary program using produce grown on the property, bringing everything together beautifully.
Pure and sophisticated, King Estate wines are a natural pairing with fine food.
