Inglenook is known for its Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines and its flagship wine "Blancanue", made from a small amount of white grapes planted in the vineyard. In 2011, an experimental grafting of Sauvignon Blanc onto Petite Sirah vines was found to produce a wonderful Sauvignon Blanc with a unique floral aroma, which debuted as Inglenook's new white wine from the 2013 vintage. Inglenook Vineyards was founded in 1879 by Gustav Niebaum. A Finnish man, Gustav used his enormous wealth to bring European grapevines to Napa. Over the next few decades, under the direction of the legendary John Daniel, they created some of the most highly acclaimed wines. However, by the time Francis Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased part of the property in 1975, the Inglenook name had been sold and the winery had collapsed. Over the course of 20 years, the Coppolas gradually bought back the vineyards that had been sold, invested in winemaking equipment, and renovated the historic Chateau of Inglenook. Inglenook has now been recreated as the same winery it was in the past, and has been revived as one of America's great wineries. Then, in April 2011, Francis Ford Coppola acquired the trademark rights to the iconic Napa winery "Inglenook" from The Wine Group. Since then, Rubicon Estate, a famous winery in Napa Valley, has been reborn as the historic name "Inglenook". From the same year, winemaker Philippe Bascaules, who had a career of more than 20 years under the late Paul Pontallier, director of Chateau Margaux, one of the first-growth chateaux in Bordeaux, France, has been in charge of winemaking at Inglenook. Bascaules has a degree in agriculture and majored in winemaking at a graduate school in Montpellier. Starting in March 2017, Philippe Bascaules will assume the dual roles of Managing Director of Château Margaux and Director of Winemaking of Inglenook. The name of Inglenook's flagship proprietary wine, Rubicon, will continue to be used, and Bascaules, who has been making wine in the Old World style, will lead a winemaking team dedicated to this great New World wine, Rubicon. Bascaules will continue to work in contact with Stephane Durnoncourt, a renowned winemaking consultant in Pomerol. In addition to the Cabernet Sauvignon, which is now known as the second wine, a new third wine, I882, is being produced. In addition, the Sauvignon Blanc, which was recently planted on the premises, will be added to the lineup from the 2013 vintage, and future developments are expected.
