The wine has a fresh aroma of apples and pears, with a hint of white flowers. The fruitiness and the fullness of the oak are well balanced, and when you put it in your mouth, you can smell ripe tropical fruits and a hint of butterscotch. It has a very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, with a long aftertaste. The vineyard is located at an altitude of 63m in the Southern Valley, facing gently north. The soil is made of clay and river soil containing gravel and pebbles layered on top of each other. We have produced powerful wines with a sense of concentration for three consecutive years in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Due to late frost, bad weather during the flowering period, and drought, the yield was significantly reduced by 25% on average in the production area, but the quality of the vintage was very high. Folium Vineyard was founded in June 2010 in Brancott Valley, Marlborough, in the northeast of New Zealand's South Island. At Folium Vineyard, we grow Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir with great care, aiming to produce the highest quality wine. The soil of the vineyard is a mixture of clay brought by the movement of glaciers during the ice age and gravel carried by the flooding of the Wairau River. The soil contains a lot of clay, which allows the grapes to retain the moisture they need to grow even in the dry summer. By planting more trees than other vineyards in Marlborough, we can produce more concentrated and powerful fruit. In order to maintain New Zealand's clean environment, we follow the regulations of the organic farming certification organization "Biogro" (certified in 2014). "The fastest way to make high-quality wine is to grow high-quality grapes," says Okada, the grower and winemaker. We strictly limit yields in the vineyard, manage the canopy by removing leaves, and in the fall, we hand-pick all the fully ripe fruit. In order to make the most of the individuality of the harvested grapes, we keep human involvement in the brewing process to a minimum and produce wines that reflect the terroir of Folium Vineyard.
