COMMENT
Based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, this domaine owns 18 hectares in the Côte de Nuits. Frédéric, the fifth generation owner, has been proactively implementing biodynamic farming methods and improving the quality of his wines with his own unique methods, such as using wooden barrels and terracotta jars for aging. He is highly regarded by other winemakers and is one of the leading winemakers in the Côte de Nuits today.
This cuvée is located at the top of a hill 350m above sea level, on a steeply sloping plot, some of which is classified as a first growth vineyard. The soil contains many shell fossils. Mont Luisant is a relatively large vineyard facing Gevrey-Chambertin, and has the unusual distinction of being divided into Grand Cru (Clos de la Roche) at the bottom, Premier Cru in the middle, and Village at the top. This wine is not classified because only grapes from the upper part of the slope are used, but it is a wine that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Premier Cru.
WINEMAKING
Since the 2016 vintage, approximately 40% of the wine is aged in terracotta jars called "jars," and the remaining 60% is aged in wooden barrels.
