COMMENT
Based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, this domaine owns 18 hectares in the Côte de Nuits. Frédéric, the fifth generation owner, has been proactively implementing biodynamic farming methods and improving the quality of his wines with his own unique methods, such as using wooden barrels and terracotta jars for aging. He is highly regarded by other winemakers and is one of the leading winemakers in the Côte de Nuits today.
This plot is located at the bottom of the Grand Cru vineyard "Charmes Chambertin". The topsoil is clay-limestone soil, rich in clay and minerals. It is not as well drained as the upper part of the hill, but the limestone in the soil brings out the flavor that is characteristic of Gevrey.
WINEMAKING
The grapes are hand-picked and carefully selected. Since the 2015 vintage, in addition to wooden barrels, about 50% of the wine is aged in terracotta jars called "jars."
