Located on the south side of Highway 121 in Carneros, Napa County, Mitsuko's Vineyards offers the perfect environment for Chardonnay. When they purchased the land in 1989, it was a field, but they continue to make various efforts to maximize the potential of each variety by searching for the best clone for the soil of each plot. In this way, Mitsuko's Chardonnay continues to evolve every year. In 1955, Ian Schramm, a student at the University of California, visited Japan on vacation and fell in love with a woman named Mitsuko. Ian established a translation publishing company in Japan and achieved great success, married Mitsuko, sold the publishing company, and eloped to Europe to learn about winemaking, which she loved. After that, he traveled around the world to establish a winery, and found the land in Napa Valley, California. In 1984, he established his long-awaited winery. He practices "Clopegas Style" winemaking, which avoids strong barrel flavors, high alcohol, and overly concentrated flavors, and is food-friendly, fruity, and elegant. Mitsuko's Vineyard, named after his wife, is located in the cool Carneros and produces elegant wines. All wines, including the flagship wine "Homage," are produced from grapes from his own 450 acres of vineyards. At the winery, you can also participate in tastings and picnic tours on the patio, making it a very popular spot in Napa that many people visit.
