In 1955, Ian Schramm, a student at the University of California, visited Japan on vacation and fell in love with a woman named Mitsuko. Ian, who started a translation publishing company in Japan and achieved great success, married Mitsuko and sold the publishing company. She almost eloped and went to Europe to learn about her favorite wine making process. After that, he traveled all over the world to establish a winery and found California's Napa Valley. In 1984, he established his dream winery. We avoid strong barrel flavors, high alcohol levels, and overly concentrated flavors to create a food-friendly, fruity yet elegant ``Clopegas Style'' wine. Mitsuko's Vineyard, named after his wife, is located in cool Carneros and produces elegant wines. All of our wines, including our flagship wine Homage, are produced from grapes grown on our 450 acres of vineyards. The winery offers tastings and patio picnic tours, making it a popular Napa spot.
