A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with plenty of fruit and spice.
The aroma is a complex mix of cherry, plum, toffee and leather. The medium-bodied taste dances gracefully on the tongue. Youthful tannins are present, but the wine is supple and approachable, and will improve with age.
Grilled salmon, vegetable risotto or mushroom pasta with herb crackers, brie cheese, pear and roasted nuts
The town of Ballard was named after William Ballard, who operated the Wells Fargo station from 1862 to 1870. Ballard is a junction between rural and seaside communities, and although it is the oldest community in the Santa Ynez Valley on the Central Coast, it has not developed like its neighbor, Santa Barbara, and looks much the same today as it did 100 years ago. It was featured in the movie "Sideways," which introduced California Pinot Noir to the world, and features a landscape of vineyards, coastal cliffs, and ranches that eventually lead to what locals call "The Lane."
Made by the Miller family, who have been grape growers on the Central Coast for five generations, Ballard Lane wines reflect their intimate knowledge of the land, climate and terroir.
