Aged 19 months in French barrels (60% new barrels) at Winfield Vineyard (own vineyard) on the eastern slope of northern Calistoga (near Montelena). Rich and rich black fruit, delicate and mellow tannins, and a firming acidity create an exquisite balance. Deep red-purple in color, cassis, cinnamon, roasted meat aromas, and black berries spread in the mouth, exotic spices, jasmine flowers, and oolong tea nuances also appear, and the finish is long and complex.
Tasting Notes - Thomas Rivers Brown
The 2016 vintage is powerful, with well-formed tannins, resulting in a supple wine with a streamlined overall flow.
The characteristics of Winfield Vineyard, located on the northeast slope of Calistoga, are well expressed, with rich, full-bodied black fruit, delicate, mellow tannins, and a tightening acidity that creates an exquisite balance.
Deep red-purple in color, aromas of cranberry, blackcurrant, cinnamon, citrus oil, roasted meat and lilac burst from the glass.
On the palate, black berries spread throughout the mouth, along with exotic spices, nuances of jasmine flowers and oolong tea, culminating in a long, complex finish.
Silky tannins hold it all together and it will age beautifully in the cellar for at least 7-10 years.
