A Pinot Noir with a firm structure and complex flavor. This is the flagship wine from Shug, which is based in Carneros. The mellow aroma and firm flavor are reminiscent of Carneros Pinot Noir.
Technical information
After punching down in stainless steel tanks for 10-12 days, the wine was rotated up to three times a day in a rotary fermenter to ensure good contact between the skins and juice and to create a mellow flavor.
During malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 2 months in 3,000 liter oak barrels, then transferred to 225 liter French barrels for 9 months (20% new).
Tasting Comments
Carneros Pinot Noir follows in the tradition of Burgundy, France's finest red wine, and showcases "clonal diversity" through a careful blend of several vineyards.
The result is a complex wine with a rich bouquet of red cherry and raspberry.
Elegant strawberry and blackberry flavors with juicy and spicy flavours and a silky smooth long finish.
It pairs well with lamb, duck and grilled fish and will improve with 2-5 years of aging from the vintage.
