Sashi Moorman began winemaking in Santa Barbara in 1996, and studied under Adam Trumack in Ojai. His wines are based on classic, natural Syrah in the French tradition. "PS" is Piedrasasi's entry-level wine, and is made mainly from young vines from Piedrasasi's single vineyard in Santa Barbara and other excellent fields. It is not strongly extracted, but is mellow and easy to drink, with a moderate fruit concentration and medium body, creating an elegant French style.

Sashi Moorman has been making wine in Santa Barbara County since 1996.

His first training was with Adam Trumack at Ojai Vineyards.

Adam taught Sashi how to make classic, natural Syrah in accordance with French traditions that reflect the terroir, and this has become the basis of Sashi's current winemaking, which is rooted in terroir, follows French traditions, and minimizes human intervention as much as possible.

Since then, we have been making wine from vineyards all over Santa Barbara, becoming familiar with the characteristics of each region and being able to select grapes that fit Piedrasassi's concept.

This "PS" is positioned as Piedrasasi's introductory wine, and is made primarily from young vines from Piedrasasi's single vineyard in Santa Barbara and other excellent fields. It is not overly extracted, and has a mellow, easy-to-drink style.

Technical information

Brewing: Natural yeast, no added SO2, 10% whole-cluster fermentation, aged for 15 months in multi-year old puncheons (500-liter French barrels), no filtering, no artificial clarification, and only a small amount of SO2 used at bottling, allowing the aroma to stand out.

Field Information

PS Syrah is a blend of grapes from several vineyards selected by Sashi, and the result is an elegant French-style Syrah with a medium body and a moderate fruit concentration, featuring the spicy, black peppery notes and plum fullness that are characteristic of Syrah.

The main vineyards are Harrison Clark (planted in 1999, clay and limestone soil, Ballard Canyon, east of Santa Barbara), Sebastiano (planted in 2008, clay and limestone soil, east of Santa Rita Hills), Patterson (SRH east/north facing), Casa Casalla (SRH east/southeast facing), Bien Nacido (planted in 1973, clay sediment soil, Santa Maria), and Rimrock (planted in 1988, crushed shale soil, Ayoro Grande). The wines are all well-balanced while bringing out the unique characteristics of each grape.
