Aged 8 months in French barrels (25% new barrels). Charming is the perfect word. Raspberry, clove and charred oak accents. Grapes are obtained from Frank Johnson, who has been in business with us for over 20 years, as well as from two contracted farmers in the Russian River Valley.
Vintage Information
The 2021 growing season got off to a great start followed by a warm summer which accelerated ripening in the vines, resulting in highly aromatic fruit with balanced sugar and acidity that was harvested on September 2nd.
Technical information
Brewing and Aging: After harvesting, the fruit was destemmed and pressed, then placed in a temperature-controlled fermentation tank for a five-day cold soak, during which the grapes were pumped over three times a day to bring out the wine's vibrant color, aroma, and tannins.
After fermentation, it is aged for 8 months in French barrels (25% new).
Tasting Comments
Aromas of rose petals, pomegranate and nutmeg.
The flavors of cherry, plum and vanilla are brought together in a light body, and the minerality, balanced acidity, mellow tanni and smooth aftertaste linger elegantly.
Field Information
The wine is sourced from grapes grown by two contract farms, Harwich and Brooks, in the northern Russian River Valley.
The Russian River Valley is naturally conditioned by cool nighttime fog that drifts in from the Pacific Ocean a few kilometres to the west, allowing the grapes to retain their important acidity and develop full flavour over a long growing season.
