As Jayson Red has become a wine centered on Merlot, this is the first Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine to be imported to the Japanese market. Aged for 15 months in French barrels (88% new barrels). Made mainly from Gallo's own vineyards in Atlas Peak and nearby famous vineyards. Rich and full-bodied, it expresses the character and structure of classic Napa Valley. A typical taste of rich fruitiness of blackberry and cassis mixed with vanilla beans, black tea, and Provencal herbs. The hard tannins open up and soften over time when savored slowly in a large glass.

This Jason is like a second to Palmer.

However, since it is made using the same brewing method as the top cuvée and is a wine that was selected as Jason through rigorous selection before bottling in the final stage, it is not blended with any wine other than that produced by Palmer.

This is a bottle that fully expresses Palmer's individuality.

Vintage Information

The 2020 vintage began with a mild, dry winter, followed by an early budbreak but cool spring and a mild, stable summer, which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly, gaining complexity and firm tannins.

Additionally, the dry climate resulted in low yields and small, concentrated fruit.

Due to the forest fires, Palmer carried out a thorough grape selection, which resulted in an excellent quality of the final harvest.

However, yields were so low that winemaker Katie decided not to produce the top cuvée, the red Palmer, and instead dedicated the Estate Cabernet to Jason.

This gives it an astonishing weight, expressing the distinctive characteristics of Palmer.

Technical information

Cultivation and Winemaking: The harvest season is from September 20th to September 30th. The Cabernet Sauvignon bunches are picked at night and delivered to the winery while still cool, using a "gravity flow" system to gently move the grapes along the sorting table where they are hand-sorted.

After gentle destemming, the grapes are then finally sorted.

After several days of cold maceration, the wine is fermented for 2-3 weeks, then gently pressed in stainless steel baskets. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrels, and the wine is aged for 15 months in French barrels. 88% of the barrels are new.

Tasting Comments

It opens with aromas of blackberry pie, cassis and leather that hint at a rich, expressive palate.

In the mouth, flavors of blackberry and plum mingle with pink pepper and earthy nuances, amplified by fresh acidity.

Well balanced with firm tannins and fruit leading to a juicy finish.
