In the heart of Oakville, this wine is grown in the valley floor, receiving ample sunlight and featuring a rich, full-bodied, fruity flavor. Vintage Information
In 2020, a warm, dry winter was followed by a warm spring, resulting in good flowering and fruit set.
The summer saw alternating cool mornings and warm days, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining their acidity.
There were concerns about smoke damage from the forest fires, but the best grapes were carefully selected to produce a high-quality wine.
The wine contains absolutely no grapes due to concerns about smoke damage, allowing the healthy, vibrant fruit to stand out.
Technical information
Winemaking and ageing: The grapes are gently crushed and then left to soak for 48 hours in cold storage to slowly develop the aromas and colours, before the main fermentation begins.
After the main fermentation is complete, the wine is left to macerate for a further two weeks with the skins and stems to impart a mellow fruitiness.
After gentle pressing, it is aged for 12 months in France (approximately 95% new oak barrels).
Tasting Comments
The 2020 vintage is a deep crimson color. The aroma is full of dense dark berries, black cherries, and nuances of cocoa, and the taste is powerful and voluminous, yet very mellow.
It is clear that very ripe grapes were used, and for a young wine the tannins are quite smooth and supple, and of good quality, which is beautifully expressed.
The aftertaste of black fruits, bitter chocolate and cocoa spreads in the mouth, and the well-balanced acidity creates an overall harmony.
This wine can be enjoyed young and has plenty of potential for further bottle ageing.
Field Information
The vineyards select the best grapes for this wine for each vintage.
The 2020 vintage is made from grapes specially sourced and custom-made exclusively for Japan from a winery's own vineyards, located on the gentle slopes of Mount Mayacamas in Oakville.
The name of the field has not been disclosed.
The soil is a sedimentary mixture of gravel, sand and clay, which has good drainage and, due to the clay content, has moderate water retention, making the vineyard highly regarded as an ideal field for Cabernet Sauvignon.
