Grapes are sourced mainly from the cool Coombsville area on the south side of Napa Valley. Hand-picked and hand-sorted, then fermented separately for each field. Aged for 14 months in French barrels (50% new barrels). Notes of raspberry, violet and spice. Blackberry and floral aromas characteristic of the variety. In the mouth, you can feel the wonderful freshness and soft tannins, making this a classic example of Merlot made in a cool climate. It has acidity so it has the potential to age, but it's also delicious to drink now.
Vintage Information
Thanks to abundant rainfall in winter and spring, buds sprouted more than a week earlier than usual, and fruit set was smooth, with warm and stable weather throughout spring and summer. Harvesting began in Merryvale on August 16, and accelerated due to the hot weather around Labor Day on September 5. The subsequent rains brought back cooler weather, allowing the grapes to ripen sufficiently. 2022 is called the "tale of two harvests." Wines made from grapes harvested before Labor Day were crisp and vibrant, while those harvested afterwards were rich and powerful.
