Sourced from multiple vineyards managed by Silverado Farming Company. 2019 is from two vineyards, Coombsville and St. Helena. Aged 21 months in French barrels (75% new barrels). With ripe tannins, excellent acidity and freshness, it can be enjoyed now and has the potential for long aging. Full-bodied, with aromas of black berries and creme de cassis, it is powerful and sturdy, with mellow tannins on the palate for a rich expression.
Technical information
After approximately 10 months of aging in French barrels, the best lots from the two vineyards are selected for this reserve and blended, then aged in barrels for a further 10 months (approximately 20 months in total, 75% new barrels), and then aged in bottles for approximately 6 months before being released.
Tasting Comments
2019 was an ideal vintage, with ripe tannins, excellent acidity and freshness, making it a wine that can be enjoyed now for its concentration, but will develop even more depth with long aging.
Combining notes of creme de cassis, mineral nuances of earth and rock, and the aroma of espresso, it is full-bodied and rich, powerful and sturdy, yet mellow on the palate, with expressive tannins that open up beautifully, and a well-balanced finish with vanilla, dark chocolate, and a gentle acidity.
Field Information
▼Main fields used by La Pelle (Only fields managed by Silverado Farming Company are used.)
Ceniza Vineyards/Coombsville AVA
Located in the southeast of Napa Valley, at the foot of the Vaca Mountains, the soil is made up of river deposits containing volcanic ash. The grapes are slowly ripened by the morning fog and cool afternoon breezes blowing in from San Pablo Bay.
Alvium Vineyards/St. Helena AVA
This famous vineyard is located in the southwest corner of the city. The soil is alluvial and contains stones from the Napa River. The temperature changes between morning and evening are large, making it an ideal growing condition for Bordeaux grape varieties. The thick skins produce excellent tannins.
Red Hen Vineyards/Oak Knoll AVA Located just north of Napa City, at the foot of Mount Veeder, the rocky and gravelly alluvial soil keeps the vines in check, and the proximity to the bay and the cool breezes produce elegant, delicate fruit flavors.
The 2019 release is a blend of selected barrels from two vineyards: Ceniza Vineyard in Coombsville and Alvium Vineyard in St. Helena.
