Charles Ivory and JM Burt, founders of Ivory & Burt, active in Lodi, California's oldest and newest wine-producing region, were the earliest settlers in the area. This land, where wheat and watermelon were cultivated, changed over time to grape cultivation, taking advantage of the fertile, mineral-rich soil and Mediterranean microclimate.
This region gained attention in 2015 when it was selected as Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast magazine, but it is also a historic region with Zinfandel grape vines that are over 120 years old. Lodi is the oldest wine producing region, but it can also be said to be the next generation of wine producing region.
Ivory & Bert's winemaker is David Akiyoshi, former winemaker at Robert Mondavi, who explores the potential of each variety to create wines that can be enjoyed with food.
