Aged for 18 months in French barrels (15% new barrels) and American barrels (25% new barrels). Made from grapes from Rutherford's own vineyards and the surrounding Napa Valley. Aromas of black fruits, baking spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves, lavender, anise, and flavors of black cherry and berries spread richly throughout the mouth, with pleasant tannins lingering on the finish. Aged for 18 months in 79% French barrels (17% new barrels) and 21% American barrels (100% new barrels).
Vintage Information
The 2019 season began with plenty of rain, leaving the soil well-watered.
A long, warm summer, with few heat waves and morning mist in the vineyards, set the stage for vibrant, expressive wines.
Relatively mild weather at the end of the growing season helped preserve the freshness and quality of the fruit, resulting in an excellent vintage for 2019 red wines, with excellent colour, structure and soft tannins.
Technical information
The grapes come from Rutherford's own vineyards and from small-scale growers in Napa Valley who are able to carefully manage their cultivation (both using sustainable farming methods).
Each vineyard block was vinified separately.
The grapes are crushed, fermented and macerated for 10-30 days, then pressed and separated from the skins.
In general, the wine is blended between January and April of the year following the harvest and then aged for 18 months in French barrels (15% new) and American barrels (25% new).
Tasting Comments
Aromas of plum and raspberry are enhanced with warm cinnamon.
The flavors of purple and black fruits are blended with nutmeg from French and American barrels, and the smoothness of cream caramel is enhanced by fine tannins.
A well-balanced medium-bodied wine with vibrant fruit flavors on the finish.
