Gramercy Cellars produces a Rhone-style second wine, a Syrah called "Lower East." The name is a play on the meaning of the vineyards in southeast Washington and the Lower East district of New York (Snope and Artistic). Whole bunch fermentation, 225L and 500L French vineyards, aged for 21 months.

LOWER EAST is the second wine from Gramercy Cellars, which was modeled after Bordeaux.

Our goal is to create a wine that captures Columbia Valley character, drinkability, and good value for money in terms of flavor and price.

In addition to using lower grade cuvées, we also use dedicated vineyards to express the individuality of this lower east region.

Lower East Side refers to the Columbia Valley and Walla Walla Valley located southeast of Washington, but in keeping with Gramercy Cellars' New York-based roots, the wines also incorporate the image of New York's Lower East Side (which was once a working-class area but has become gentrified in recent years, becoming a unique district where snobs and artists gather) and produce two types of wines with familiar flavors and unique personalities at affordable prices.

Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting Comments

This blend combines freshness from the high altitude vineyards of the Yakima Valley with excellent acidity from the Walla Walla Valley.

The Les Collines vineyard, released as a single vineyard by Gramercy Cellars on the Washington side of the Walla Walla Valley, produces wines with the characteristics of a higher-class Rhone-type Syrah (acidity, spice, and robustness), while the wines from the distinctive Rock District vineyards on the Oregon side (full of rocks, as the name suggests) produce Syrah-like earthy notes, meaty and bloody flavors, and a salty flavor.

The palate is full of approachable fruitiness, with fruity aromas of blackberry and dark cherry, meaty nuances of seared beef, bacon, baking spices, and cloves, as well as pebbles, earth, rocks, and a salty minerality.

Medium to full bodied.

You can enjoy fresh, well-rounded tannins, and the fine acidity gently envelops the whole.

Smooth, balanced and elegant on the palate.

It goes well with meat dishes, especially red meat and game.
