Aged 15 months in French barrels (40% new barrels). Standard Merlot from Napa Valley. Smooth on the palate, with soft tannins and a long finish. Rich and full of ripe plum notes. The result is an attractive wine.
Duckhorn Vineyards has been making wine from Napa Valley grapes for nearly 40 years.
Duckhorn's Merlot is a blend of lots made from grapes sourced from our own vineyards and purchased from some of Napa Valley's top growers.
The resulting wine is incredibly rich, expressing all the characteristics of the broader Napa Valley's diverse microclimates and unique soils.
Vintage Information
The year saw mild spring and summer with no heat waves, creating near-perfect growing conditions for both white and black grapes.
The climate is ideal for Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, resulting in tropical aromas and ripe fruit flavors without too much sugar.
The Chardonnay was harvested three weeks later than usual and arrived to the winery in perfect condition, producing a dynamic, complex wine.
The red Bordeaux grape varieties produced a slightly higher yield than average, with all the grapes ripening evenly.
Each block was harvested in the fall at optimum ripeness, resulting in juicy, flawless wines with plush, round tannins and good structure.
Tasting Comments
