A blend of excellent vineyards from Sonoma's own and contracted vineyards, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Yolo, San Luis Obispo, and San Benito. Deeply pursuing the charm of cool climates. Aged for 12 months in French barrels (35% new barrels) with layers of black cherry, black currant, and strawberry, and a rich aroma of forest and spice. Excellent acidity reminiscent of Burgundy for a fresh taste. Soft and silky on the palate, with a long finish.
The Decoy brand used Duckhorn's experience in making Pinot Noir, which had gained fame with Goldeneye and Migration, to produce Pinot Noir using grapes from Sonoma County.
However, in order to delve deeper into the diverse appeal of Pinot Noir, the company has expanded the vineyards it uses to include Sonoma, the Central Coast (near Monterey), Mendocino, and Santa Barbara.
This is a Pinot Noir that offers a luxurious taste right from its release.
Vintage Information
Due to the warm winter and less than 50% of the usual amount of precipitation, we took early measures against the drought, such as encouraging new shoots, careful management of cover crops, targeted irrigation, and pruning with consideration of the load on the grapes. Buds sprouted from mid-March to early April and flowered in mid-May. The favorable growing season promoted excellent ripening. Harvesting began with Sauvignon Blanc in mid-August, followed soon by Chardonnay and Merlot, and the remaining Bordeaux varieties were all harvested by October 15th. The drought resulted in low yields, but the grapes were small and had a concentrated flavor, resulting in excellent grapes. The white wine had ideal acidity and a fresh tropical flavor, and the red wine was surprisingly concentrated, resulting in a wine with great depth, complexity and juiciness.
