The vineyards are in the Russian River Valley and Green Valley regions, shrouded in cold mist. 21) is a blend of the two vineyards. The temperature difference allows the grapes to ripen slowly. The soil is made of sand from the bottom of the Gold Ridge sea, which is a good match for Pinot Noir. Aged in French barrels for 11 months (55% new barrels). The wine has a rich aroma of fresh red fruits, and the characteristics of Pinot Noir from a cool region that is not overly ripe are purely expressed. The finely-ground tannins have a soft mouthfeel, and are bordered by excellent acidity derived from juicy fruits. The aftertaste is long and layered with various elements.

Cuvee Number One

The company gave this proud name to the appellation wines it began producing in 2014, starting with VTG.

We continue to produce this wine every year, expressing the characteristics of Pinot Noir/Russian River Valley.

Production volume: 485 cases per year

Technical information

Clones: In 2021 we will use Clones 115, 667, 777, Carrera, and Mount Eden.

Winemaking: The 2021 harvest took place over two nights, on September 3rd and 10th. Before dawn, while it was still cool, the grapes were brought to the winery by plot and clone, where they were carefully selected and then all de-stemmed by hand.

The wine is then transferred to separate small open stainless steel tanks and fermentation begins slowly using only natural yeast.

To ensure a gentle and slow extraction, the grapes are punched down gently by hand twice a day (returning the skins, grains, and seeds to the juice). After alcoholic fermentation is complete, the grapes are aged in French barrels for 11 months (55% new barrels).

Tasting Comments

This wine well represents one of the characteristics of Russian River Valley: "cool mornings and evenings and ample sunlight during the day allow for concentrated fruit flavor and clean acidity to coexist."

It has a very aromatic flavour of black berries, fresh rhubarb and baking spices from the barrels (cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, etc.), and the taste is characterized by lively acidity and soft, smooth tannins, with plenty of concentrated fruitiness and a supple flavor that spreads throughout the mouth.

Field Information

The 2021 vintage is a blend of grapes from Wedding VYD, a vineyard in Green Valley, a particularly cool area in the Russian River Valley, and Martaella VYD, a vineyard in the Santa Rosa Plain in the central part of the region.

From night to morning, you will be completely enveloped in mist, enjoying the coolness and humidity, and in the afternoon, you will receive plenty of sunlight and a breeze to blow the humidity away.

This temperature difference allows the grapes to ripen very slowly, not only increasing their sugar content but also allowing them to ripen to perfection, with a fresh, concentrated aroma, soft mouthfeel, and velvety supple tannins.

Red fruit and earthy characteristics are apparent.

Perfect cultivation management results in low yields and concentrated individuality.

The soil is Gold Ridge (a soil made up of sandy deposits from the bottom of an old sea, with good drainage and roots that grow deep underground).
