A classic wine that allows you to fully enjoy its charm. The main vineyards are Bedrock Vineyard in the heart of Sonoma Valley (a legendary vineyard with a history dating back over 160 years, acquired by the Peterson family in 2005), located in the heart of Sonoma Valley, as well as Pagani Ranch, Terdeschi, Evangelo and Pado in Contra Costa, and Esola in Amador. The vines used are all old, with an average age of over 80 years. Spicy and mellow, with a well-balanced acidity, but we recommend opening and decanting early. (Approximately 10% new oak) The 2015 VTG was ranked 12th in Wine Spectator's 2017 Top 100.
This is a classic Bedrock wine that will add to Bedrock's charm. It is very popular throughout the United States. It is said that "if you see it, you should definitely buy it."
As this Old Vine Zinfandel gets on track (smooth sales), we are now able to use a certain amount of old vines from various regions on a regular basis each year, which means that old vine vineyards are being re-evaluated, cherished, and will contribute to their continued existence in the future.
An entry level wine that represents the Bedrock style.
From old trees with an average age of 80 years
Technical information
Aged in French and Austrian barrels (a combination of 225 liter, puncheons, 500 liter, and foudres (large barrels) / new barrel ratio approx. 10%)
Tasting Comments
This flavorful wine is layered with wonderful fruit character and offers rich aromas of steak tartare, freshly crushed black pepper, black raspberries, blackberries and Italian Amarone.
The taste is rich, yet has beautiful acidity, making it very lively and full of energy.
It is a pleasure to drink young, but we recommend opening and decanting it promptly.
Vintage Information
In 2022, the challenge was to balance the grapes that had ripened in the intense heat of early September in Sonoma, but by blending them with grapes from other areas with different environments, climates, and soils, and with a variety of different varieties, we were able to create a blend that was not too rich, but also had depth and complexity. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 12 vineyards.
Field Information
Instead of Esola Vineyards, the wine is blended with grapes from the renowned vineyards of Sonoma and Contra Costa.
◆ Sonoma 1: Terdeschi Vineyard (about 20% is blended and forms the backbone of the wine)
Located in Dry Creek Valley, this valuable vineyard has been used by Joel, the vineyard owner, as one of Ravenswood's vineyards since 1982.
The well-drained, stony clay soil produces concentrated flavors of black raspberry and pomegranate with excellent spicy tannin quality that reflects the nuances of the pebbly soil.
◆ Sonoma 2: Bedrock Vineyard (A legendary vineyard with a history dating back more than 160 years, acquired in 2005 by the Peterson family, known as the home vineyard of Ravenswood in the heart of Sonoma Valley, dating back to 1888)
◆ Sonoma Alexander Valley: Nervo (planted in 1896) A historic vineyard planted in a patchwork pattern of various varieties near the city of Geyserville.
Bedrock currently manages cultivation in collaboration with the owner.
◆ Contra Costa: Evangelo (planted in the 1890s)
Our own vineyard: 30 minutes inland from San Francisco, grown in deep sandy soil with no rootstocks and with its own roots.
A cool breeze constantly blows, and the taste is silky and mild.
Other vineyards included in the blend are the legendary Pagani Ranch, Sodini/RRV and Katusha/Lodi.
