Stunning! Beautiful aromas of candied violets, blackberries, blueberries, yogurt and blackcurrants. Powerful and expressive, with firm tannins, generous acidity and a long, lively finish with flavors of cedar and toffee. Located on the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley, Spotswood Estate's terroir is ideal for wine growing. The alluvial clay soils of the Sulphur Creek Alluvial Fan are well-drained, and the cool ocean breezes between Spring Mountain and the Mayacamas Mountains help the fruit ripen evenly. Founded in 1882, Spotswood Estate has a distinguished history in Napa Valley. The 42-acre vineyard was replanted by sisters Beth and Lindy Novak, second generation members of the Novak family, to primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc.

At Spotswood, grape growing and winemaking are inextricably linked. The health and resilience that organic and biodynamic farming brings to our vineyards, plus the individual attention to each block, gives our wines consistent quality and individual character. Spotswood is a family-owned winery located on the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley. As one of the first wineries in Napa to practice organic farming, Spotswood has been stewards of the land and coexists with Mother Nature since 1985. We were certified by CCOF (California Certified Organic Farmers) in 1992, and our property is home to 115 olive trees, cork trees, and a variety of other plants.

mission:

Our goal is to respect the terroir and the vintage and to consistently produce wines with a distinctive, refined style - wines worthy of standing shoulder to shoulder with the world's great wine estates.

history:

This 46-acre estate was established in 1882 by George Schonewald, whose Victorian mansion is featured on the label. Spotswood was named by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property until 1972, when it was purchased by Mary Weber Novak and Dr. Jack Novak. The Novak family renovated the house and replanted the vineyards, which were in pristine condition since the pre-Prohibition era.

Following Jack's sudden death in 1977, Mary realised their shared dream and produced Spotswood's debut Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, exactly 100 years after the estate was founded.

Today, Spotswoode is known for its exceptional estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, which has received multiple 100-point ratings from Wine Advocate magazine. Wine:

We produce small quantities to ensure the highest quality. We only produce four varieties: Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Lindenhurst, and Field Book. Our goal is to create wines that are exceptionally balanced, with structure, elegance, consistency, and ageability. And our philosophy is to "respect the vineyard."

Our own fields:

Our 40 acres (approximately 16 hectares) of vineyards offer ideal terroir for growing wine grapes.

Located at the top of the alluvial fan of Sulphur Creek, the soil is a sandy clay loam alluvial deposit with good drainage. Between the Mayacamas Mountains and Spring Mountain, cool ocean breezes that reduce the heat flow in. Four skilled workers tend the vineyards by hand to grow the highest quality wine grapes. One of the main clones grown there is so highly regarded that it is called the "Spotswood clone," and is a clone that is only grown in a few vineyards in Napa Valley.

Land Steward:

We strive for balance, grace, integrity and quality not just in our wines but in all aspects of our business. Our property is dotted with bird boxes, solar power installations, chicken coops and bee hives and we are constantly striving to improve our care for the environment and our community.

Currently, in addition to CCOF, the company is certified by Demeter, BCorp, and ROC (Regenerative Organic Certified) for biodynamic farming.
