This is our own vineyard located behind Nickel & Nickel Winery in the center of Oakville. John C. Sullenger is the person who cleared this land and started it as a farm in the 1880s. The soil of the 12 hectares is clay loam and only Cabernet Sauvignon is planted. This is our own vineyard located behind Nickel & Nickel Winery in the center of Oakville. John C. This is our own vineyard located behind Nickel & Nickel Winery in the center of Oakville. John C. Sullenger is the person who cleared this land and started it as a farm in the 1880s. The 12 hectares of clay loam are planted with only Cabernet Sauvignon, and the combination of two types of rootstocks and several clones creates a complex wine flavor. Nickel & Nickel is a winery based on the motif of "one grape variety, one vineyard" and was founded in 1997 by the five owners of Far Niente Winery, which is immovably popular in Napa Valley. The biggest feature of Nickel & Nickel's wines is that they are made only from a single grape variety from a single vineyard. Currently, only Cabernet Sauvignon is imported to Japan, but other single-vineyard wines such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel are also released. The most important decision is which single vineyard to make wine from. No matter how great a single vineyard is, if there is even a part that does not meet their standards, they will not make wine from it. Everything is checked, including the soil, rootstock, type of clone, field orientation, and cultivation method. The Nickel & Nickel team then meticulously tended each vineyard to maximize its potential. With this level of care, even though the two vineyards are only a mile apart, they each produce grapes with excellent character. Single-vineyard, single-varietal wines allow the individuality of each variety and soil to shine through, resulting in wines with depth.
