Nickel & Nickel is a winery based on the motif of "one grape variety, one vineyard" and was founded in 1997 by the five owners of Far Niente Winery, which is immovably popular in Napa Valley. The biggest feature of Nickel & Nickel's wines is that they are made only from a single grape variety from a single vineyard. Currently, only Cabernet Sauvignon is imported to Japan, but other single-vineyard wines such as Chardonnay, Merlot, Syrah, and Zinfandel are also released. The most important decision is which single vineyard to make wine from. No matter how great a single vineyard is, if there is even a part that does not meet their standards, they will not make wine from it. The soil, rootstock, type of clone, field orientation, and cultivation method are all checked. After that, the Nickel & Nickel team carefully cares for the fields to maximize the potential of each field. With this level of careful management, even two vineyards that are only a mile apart can produce grapes with excellent individuality. Single-vineyard, single-variety wines allow the individuality of each variety and soil to come through, resulting in a wine with depth.
