Shocking. Deep garnet. Savory aromas like blueberry pie, baked plums, grilled meat, soil and roasted lamb. Full-bodied with black fruit aromas, firm and smooth tannins that linger on a long, fresh finish. All Hundred Acres wines are hand-selected one by one, fermented in small French containers and aged for a long time in the finest barrels. Hundred Acres wines are made with attention to detail and without compromise. It is no exaggeration to say that 2019 is the best vintage ever. It is shockingly wonderful. Due to the wildfires that hit Napa Valley, there was no production of the 2020 vintage, so it can be said that the 2019 vintage helped us. Ark's vineyards are located at the foot of Howell Mountain, a little outside the town of St. Helena. There are records of grapes planted here since the 1880s, but Prohibition destroyed everything. Jason bought the property and spent five years restoring the vineyard. This vineyard is Hundred Acres' pride and joy. Nine Arc plots, made up of different volcanic soils, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon vines spaced one meter apart. The soil was formed 60 million years ago, and it was once a beachfront facing the sea, and it is said that prehistoric humans used this soil to make arrowheads. The vineyard is about 800 meters wide from east to west, and has good sunlight conditions. Glass Mountain on the west side of the vineyard protects the grapes from the hot western sun that can burn the aromas. The wine is aged for a minimum of 30 months in carefully selected, top-quality French oak barriques. The barrel sides are selected with an emphasis on fine grain and are naturally dried for three years.
Hundred Acre is a boutique winery in Napa Valley that was founded in 1998 (at the age of 36 at the time) by Jason Woodbridge, who made a fortune at a young age while working in investment banking. Jason has established a "0 or 100" policy, and firmly believes that "if it's not of the highest quality, there's no point in doing it," so he produces the "perfect" Cabernet Sauvignon without any compromise. Hundred Acre is not a wine made by striving for "perfection," but a wine that is brewed with the utmost care, with "perfection" being the fundamental premise.
This is a Lutra Premium wine. The grapes from each vineyard are harvested by hand in batches according to the aging process. After harvest, the grapes are thoroughly hand-selected and separated by harvest time, plot, and vineyard, and then fermented, pressed, and aged separately. The French oak used at Hundred Acres is only fine-grained wood from specific forests, and only high-spec barrels that are naturally dried for at least three years and then toasted are used. All wines are aged for at least 30 months, and only those that Jason considers to be complete are bottled and released. Of course, wines that are not "perfect" are not released in the first place.
