COMMENT
Based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, this domaine owns 18 hectares in the Côte de Nuits. Frédéric, the fifth generation owner, has been proactively implementing biodynamic farming methods and improving the quality of his wines with his own unique methods, such as using wooden barrels and terracotta jars for aging. He is highly regarded by other winemakers and is one of the leading winemakers in the Côte de Nuits today.
Clos de la Roche is one of the most famous Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits region. Magnen owns a plot on the west side, near Clos Saint-Denis, at the top of the hill. Amazingly, each and every grape is destemmed by hand before vinifying. This is a wine that Magnen has carefully crafted.
WINEMAKING
After hand-picking, the grapes are de-stemmed by hand, leaving only the short stems for each grape. They are then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Since the 2015 vintage, in addition to wooden barrels, about 50% of the aging time has been in terracotta jars called "jars."
