Château Mauvezin has been owned by the Marquis de Mauvezin family since 1457, and the current château was built in 1853.
On August 4, 2011, the Barton Sartorias family, owners of Château Langois Barton, a third growth in Saint-Julien, and Château Léoville Barton, a second growth, purchased the property from the Viscount Britault du Carpia family, descendants of the Marquis of Mauvezin, and renamed it Château Mauvezin Barton.
The winemaking is handled by Melanie Barton Sartorius, the 10th generation granddaughter of Anthony Barton.
