Haut-Carl Young vine cuvée from Clos des Carls. Eastern slope. Field with high potential. Clay, rich in iron and lime. This new domaine was jointly established in 2012 by Olivier Meerland of Domaine Meerland, a top domaine said to be the leader in the Macon region, and Dominique Lafon, owner of Domaine Comte Lafon, a top domaine in Meursault and a great dry white wine maker in Burgundy. The Clos des Carls vineyard, located at the southernmost part of Pouilly-Fuissé, is a historic vineyard that dates back more than 100 years, and Meerland and Dominique immediately felt the potential and greatness of this vineyard as soon as they stepped into it. Overlooking the Saône River, this 100-year-old vineyard is a monopoly surrounded by a long, high stone wall (Clos).
The oldest vines in the 2.23ha vineyard were planted almost 100 years ago in 1917. They decided to pool their experience and know-how to create a wine that would surpass any Pouilly-Fuisse ever produced.
