If you like both coffee and beer, why not try a blend from the only brewery in the world that also roasts coffee, and enjoy both your favorite flavors at the same time?

This oatmeal coffee stout has the characteristics of an imperial stout, such as a full body, rich chocolate flavor, and strong coffee aroma, but with an alcohol content of just 5.8%.

Modern Times is one of the few breweries in the world that roasts its own coffee.

This allows them to be extremely particular about the type of coffee beans and the degree of roasting.

Naturally, Black House also uses coffee beans, a medium roast blend of 75% Ethiopian Hambela and 25% Sumatra Mandheling.

By the way, this Ethiopia/Sumatra blend is also sold as coffee beans only under the name Black House Blend.

This creates the coffee aroma and flavor that is central to this stout.

It uses eight types of malt, including Oats and Kiln Coffee Malt, and the only hopping used is bittering with the addition of hop extract.

When poured into a glass, the jet black liquid is topped with a beige head.

Aromas of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, and hints of vanilla and sugar.

On the palate, the roasted coffee dominates, with a pleasant balance of the moderate sweetness of the malt.

Other complex flavours include toffee, chocolate, lactose and biscuit.

A bittersweet finish reminiscent of espresso with chocolate.

You can enjoy a solid body and flavor that is hard to believe considering the alcohol content is 5.8%.

The name Black House comes from the Gormenghast series, published by British author Mervyn Peake between 1946 and 1959.

In the novel, the space deep within the characters' minds is called the Black House.
